But if you're planning to prepare and serve the candied chestnuts yourself, it's much more practical, and economical, to use candied chestnuts that have been preserved in syrup. You can arrange them on a platter, serve them over vanilla ice cream, or use them to garnish any number of elegant desserts, like a charlotte or ganache aux marrons glacs. This 19 oz can (11 oz drained) contains about 13 chestnuts. Drain the chestnuts thoroughly before use (reserving the liquid for another use); otherwise, they will be too sweet.
